Election? What election. I cast a write-in vote for Jay Norvell, who has Colorado State bowl eligible for the first time since 2017.
The real bowl story of course is Boise State. After thrashing San Diego State – previously unbeaten in the conference – the Broncos are getting close to a spot in the College Football Playoff. BSU currently holds the #12 position and is favorite to win the Group of Five berth.
All four remaining games are winnable, with a road game at San Jose State or a home game against Oregon State the trickiest of the lot. Boise has already beaten UNLV while Colorado State, the other team unbeaten in conference play, isn’t on the schedule.
Week 11
New Mexico (3-6, 2-3) at San Diego State (3-5, 2-1)
Last Week: Lobos are coming off a tough loss to Wyoming, while the Aztecs were handed their first MWC loss by Boise State.
This Week: San Diego State has not lost to New Mexico since 2008.
Bowl Eligibility Update: The winner of this one is still potentially eligible, but the loser is not.
San Jose State (5-3, 3-2) at Oregon State (4-4)
Last Week: Although both teams are coming off byes, their last outings were thrashings at the hands of Boise State and Cal respectively.
Facts: San Jose State has lost the last 5 meetings with OSU and is 2-5 all time against the Beavers.
Bowl Eligibility Update: Spartans need one more win to become bowl eligible.
Nevada (3-7, 0-4) at Boise State (7-1, 4-0)
Last Week: Wolfpack lost to Colorado State and are yet to win in the conference. Broncos blew out San Diego State.
This Week: Boise State has been the favorite in the last 18 meetings with Nevada and is 16-2 in those games.
Bowl Eligibility Update: Boise is eligible and probably headed for the national playoff, while Nevada will not go bowling.
UNLV (6-2, 2-1) at Hawaii (4-5, 2-2)
Last Week: Rebels had a bye, while the Warriors went on the road and stunned Fresno State.
This Week: The home team has won the last three in the ‘Island Showdown Trophy.’
Bowl Eligibility Update: UNLV is bowl eligible, Hawaii needs two more wins.
Fresno State (5-4, 3-2) at Air Force (1-7, 0-4)
Last Week: Bulldogs were upset by Hawaii at home, while the one-win Falcons lost to Army.
This Week: Air Force has won the last three meetings, but they haven’t played each other since 2019.
Bowl Eligibility Update: Fresno State needs one more win, while Air Force is ineligible for the first time since 2018, not counting the 2020 COVID year.
Utah State (2-6, 1-3) at Washington State (7-1)
Last Week: Both the Aggies and Cougars had byes.
This Week: Series is tied 2-2. Wazzu won the first two and USU has won the last two.
Bowl Eligibility Update: Aggies are ineligible and will miss the postseason for the first time in eight years (not counting the 2020 COVID year).
Week 11 Byes
Colorado State (6-3, 4-0) is bowl eligible for the first time in seven years. The last Rams’ bowl victory was a 2013 win over a Washington State team coached by the late Mike Leach.
Wyoming (2-7, 2-3) will not play in a bowl game for the first time since 2018 (not counting the 2020 COVID affected season).
